The New Jersey Community Transportation Training Program is pleased to sponsor the National Safety Council’s Defensive Driving for Transit Van Operators training program.
Course Overview
The goal of the Defensive Driving for Transit Van Operators training program is to upgrade and refresh the defensive driving skills of community transportation van operators. The program offers the ability to reduce onboard incidents and collisions by providing up-to-date training in safe vehicle operation and defensive driving techniques. Participants will appreciate the program’s non-lecture , participant-based format.
Course Outline
- Introduction: Pre-test and Self Appraisal
- Conditions That Lead to Accidents and Collisions
- Preparing for the Road (weather, bulletins, detours, etc.)
- Vehicle Characteristics
- Vehicle Inspection
- Safe Driving Skills (including situation analysis, scanning, stopping distances, and reaction times)
- Driving Environments
- Transporting Passengers
- Review, Post-test and Awarding of Certificates
