The New Jersey Community Transportation Training Program is pleased to sponsor the Community Transportation Association of America’s (CTAA) Vehicle Maintenance Management and Inspection (VMMI) training program.
Course Overview
This three-day training program is designed to enhance the professional skills of community transportation maintenance personnel and managers, and improve the maintenance oversight of smaller transit vehicle fleets. The training is based on an established maintenance training curriculum developed by Halsey King, of Halsey King and Associates, and has been applied to vehicle fleets nationwide. It is targeted specifically for managers and technicians who maintain rural and complementary vans, cutaway paratransits, and buses under 30 feet in length.
Course Outline
Day 1:
- Practical and legal reasons for proper inspection and preventative maintenance.
- DOT requirements – Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- DOT requirements – Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
- Principles of vehicle safety inspection.
- Hands-on training of vehicle safety inspection.
- Vehicle safety inspection testing.
Day 2:
- Relationship between maintenance and operations.
- The manager’s role in maintenance.
- Cost centers of fleet maintenance.
- Efficient and effective forms and reporting.
- How technology helps maintenance management.
- Manufacturers’ standards and expectations.
Day 3:
- Maintenance outsourcing – when to do it, how to manage it.
- Review and final examination.
This training is free to employees of New Jersey community transportation providers.
